Background
Bintan Island, Indonesia is the largest of 3,200 islands in the Riau Archipelago, the third largest of 27 provinces in Indonesia. Northern Bintan, a 23,000-hectare development jointly undertaken by the Singaporean and Indonesian governments features 18 kilometres of pristine white beaches, azure waters and tropical flora, making it the ideal surrounding for a triathlon.
Ferry and travel information
From Jakarta
Sriwijaya Air and Riau Airlines fly daily to Tanjung Pinang (Bintan). Taxi transfer from Raja Haji Fisibilillah (RHF) Airport to the Bintan Resorts takes 45-60 minutes and cost SGD 65. Participants from outside Indonesia are advised to travel via Singapore.
From Singapore
Bintan is accessible via a 55-minute ride on a high speed catamaran from Tanah Merah Ferry Terminal.

Below is a list of important information to ensure a smooth journey to Bintan Island.
If you are not residing in Singapore, and plan to connect your flight arriving in Singapore with your ferry for Bintan we recommend you allow at least 3 hours connecting time.

Bintan is one hour behind Singapore!
Example 1: Ferry departure time from Singapore is 8am - travel time is 55 minutes - ferry arrival time in Bintan is 7.55am.
Example 2: Ferry departure time from Bintan is 4.30pm - travel time is 55 minutes - ferry arrival time in Singapore is 6.25pm.

Visas
International passports must be valid for at least six months from the date of arrival. A Visa-On-Arrival (VOA) for Indonesia is required for some nationalities. Please ensure that you have one full page available for the Indonesian Immigration Visa.
Bike Packing
Your bike will be handled with care by the ferry operator, however, we advise you to:
- Take off all accessories and loose parts from your bike, so they will not get lost during transportation
- Protect your bike against scratches by wrapping your frame or packing your bike in a box.
The ferry terminal operator in Singapore will charge an additional SGD 10 at check in for the handling of your bike. For the return an additional SGD 12 will be charged in Bintan.
Transfers to and from hotel
On arrival on Bintan Island, it is just a 10 minute comfortable coach ride (or around 8km cycle) to the race venue, Nirwana Gardens.
If you are staying at Nirwana Gardens, transfers for your bike and yourself will be arranged by the Resort. Other hotels on Bintan Island also provide transfer services, but please check with them to avoid disappointment.
To enjoy the full Bintan Triathlon experience and have stress free preparation to your race, we advise you stay the Friday and Saturday night on Bintan, however day trips are also available.

You are advised to book a van at the limousine counter at the arrival hall to get to the Tanah Merah Ferry Terminal with your bike box. This service is available 24 hours, and costs a flat rate of SGD35. Regular taxis (at the taxi stand) are half the price, but may not be able to fit your bike box.
It is also advisable to arrange your return transfer from Tanah Merah Ferry Terminal to Changi Airport at the same limousine counter.
